Michael-Richie-MD
Ophthalmologist

Dr. Michael Richie is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a special interest in laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK) and cataract surgery, especially refractive cataract surgery using high technology multifocal and toric lens implants.

Dr. Richie incorporates his years of LASIK experience into his cataract surgery, creating personalized advanced surgical plans unique to each individual patient for correcting astigmatism, dealing with reading, and honing visual outcomes.

After graduating from St John’s University, Dr. Richie received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota, followed by an Internship at Hennepin County Medical Center and a Residency in Ophthalmology at the Eye Institute, The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Dr. Richie’s professional memberships and affiliations include:

  • American Academy of Ophthalmology
  • Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology
  • American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons

Having already hit the Perfect Golf Shot (Pokegama Golf Course, Grand Rapids, MN, 9-4-05, par 3, 170-yard 8th Hole with a 6 iron), Dr. Richie has no plans to climb a mountain or jump out of an air plane, although he may try his hand at writing the Great American Novel.

Dr. Richie and his wife Mary have lived in Faribault since 1991 and actively support their Church and local schools, the United Way, the local Chamber of Commerce, and a variety of other community organizations and charities. They love skiing in the mountains and are now wise enough to break for lunch and warm their toes. Finally, they have three adult children and love their “empty nest”.

Dear Friends,

Although Richie Eye Clinic has remained open for urgent and emergent care through this tough time, Governor Walz has now declared that Minnesotans can resume routine eye visits and elective eye surgeries. We are ready with our “new normal.” Here is our plan:

  1. We ask all patients entering the clinic to bring your own cloth mask or face covering. We have a limited supply for those who do not have their own. Our team will “masked up” as well.
  2. Upon arrival, we will ask you some screening questions, check your temperature, and ask you to sanitize your hands. If you have a cough, cold, fever, or just don’t feel good, please stay home.
  3. Feel free to use our new virtual check-in; call or text us from your car and we will advise you when we are ready to escort you to a room.
  4. As always, we sanitize each room after every patient.
  5. Our Optical is open to serve you by appointment
  6. Please practice “social distancing” during your entire visit.

We are excited to add that our Northfield location will resume clinic hours starting Monday May 18th, as well.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Mike Richie
