Dr. Michael G. Richie

Michael-Richie-MD
Ophthalmologist

Dr. Michael Richie is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a special interest in laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK) and cataract surgery, especially refractive cataract surgery using high technology multifocal and toric lens implants.

Dr. Richie incorporates his years of LASIK experience into his cataract surgery, creating personalized advanced surgical plans unique to each individual patient for correcting astigmatism, dealing with reading, and honing visual outcomes.

After graduating from St John’s University, Dr. Richie received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota, followed by an Internship at Hennepin County Medical Center and a Residency in Ophthalmology at the Eye Institute, The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.

Dr. Richie’s professional memberships and affiliations include:

  • American Academy of Ophthalmology
  • Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology
  • American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons

Having already hit the Perfect Golf Shot (Pokegama Golf Course, Grand Rapids, MN, 9-4-05, par 3, 170-yard 8th Hole with a 6 iron), Dr. Richie has no plans to climb a mountain or jump out of an air plane, although he may try his hand at writing the Great American Novel.

Dr. Richie and his wife Mary have lived in Faribault since 1991 and actively support their Church and local schools, the United Way, the local Chamber of Commerce, and a variety of other community organizations and charities. They love skiing in the mountains and are now wise enough to break for lunch and warm their toes. Finally, they have three adult children and love their “empty nest”.

We are well into the weirdest time any of us have ever experienced. Not since World War II have we seen these kinds of actions and steps to keep us safe.

Bars and restaurants are shuttered by order of the Governor and social distancing leaves many of us confined to our homes. Everyone is more tech savvy as we learn Facetime, Netflix, video streaming and GrubHub.

Businesses are limited to “essential services” only making most of us reorder our priorities. However important we thought our work was before this, we have a new found appreciation for the folks who deliver goods to the store, stock the shelves, scrub the floors and take out the garbage.

Kids are learning online, people who never dreamed they could be working remotely are doing so, and tele-everything is taking off.

With Governor Walz’ announcement on March 25th, we have at least another 2 weeks of Shelter In Place to endure (enjoy?).

At Richie Eye Clinic, we are doing our part, too. We are open on a limited basis for urgent and emergent problems including eye pain, sudden loss of vision, infections, foreign bodies in the eye, and those who are receiving injections for macular degeneration, diabetes, and other retinal issues.

Although we have limited staffing, we are here to answer your questions, so if your call goes to voicemail, please leave a message; we will return your call as soon as possible.

As society continues in “lockdown” mode, rest assured that we are here for you when you need us and, together, we will get through this.

Sincerely,

Mike Richie
