The Community Action Center is joining forces with Supply Our Children, Faribault Public Schools, and the Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce to provide school supplies for all Faribault Public Schools students in need next year.
Recognizing the level of need facing Faribault students and families, Faribault Public Schools has eliminated school supply lists for preschool through 8th grade. FPS families can expect all children’s school supplies to be available in their classrooms upon the start of school!
Families who do not qualify for federal free or reduced lunch will be asked to contribute $35 towards the costs of the school supplies. Thanks to the generosity of the community, all other families will not be asked to pay at all. The need we know families are stretched. Today, two-thirds of the kids in Faribault Public Schools (69%) are from low-income households. The cost of buying school supplies poses a real financial burden. This means many kids come to school without the supplies they need to be successful. This also creates stress for teachers, who struggle to have the supplies needed for successful classrooms. Richie Eye Clinic and LASIK is a proud corporate sponsors of this initiative.
Operation Backpack is a free community-based resource for Northfield students Pre-K-12. Students receive a free backpack and school supplies coordinated in partnership with the Operation Backpack Committee.
